Referigeration
  • Buy a condenser brush and keep that condenser clean on your refrigerator, it needs to breathe to run efficiently.

  • Did you know that ideal refrigerator temperatures are -5 to 0 degrees in the freezer and 38 to 42 degrees in the refrigerator compartment?

  • Ice-cream is "rock hard" at 0 degrees.

  • If your refrigerator is warm and the freezer is cold, you probably have a defrost problem.

  • Most defrost problems are with the defrost timer.

  • If you are changing the defrost heater, you should always change the defrost terminator also, and use one that is the next temperature higher.

  • All Domestic defrost timers are externally "wired" the same so the numbers don't have to match each other.

Plumbing
  • While stainless steel fill hoses for your washer may cost more, they are going to prevent flooding in your home, as regular hoses may burst.

  • Use pipe sealant on pipe fittings only - Teflon tape and sealant can cause a leak when used with flair or compression fittings

Heating
  • Change your furnace filter twice a year!

Appliances
  • If you own a GE/Hotpoint dishwasher, it's a good idea to run the dishwasher every 2 days , even though there are no dirty dishes, to keep the motor running well.

  • Allow hot water to flow in your sink before you turn on your dishwasher, it makes sure you have hot water in your dishwasher.

  • Put your range hood filter in your dishwasher once in a while, it cleans the grease off the screen quite well.

Electrical
  • Oil motors (bathroom, vent hood, furnace, etc) frequently also give your dryer rollers and older pulleys a shot once in a while.

  • If you don't have the right size capacitor, use the next size higher but don't go over 10% of the micro load reading, you can also use the next voltage higher also.

  • To help read a wire sceamantic - try to remember that electricity is like water, it flows thru the path of least resistance.

Miscellaneous
  • Stuck screws? Try tightening the screw first before you unscrew it, it might break the lock on the threads.

  • If your head is waxed, don't stand in the sun.

  • Never reuse snap springs - Always use new ones - old snap springs loose their spring tension and will fail.
